‘Do I even need Social Media?’ The Benefits for Baby & Toddler Class Providers

‘Do I really need social media?’ is a question we often get asked by class providers.

We get it. Maybe you’re not that tech-savvy (your specialism is delivering fantastic in-person classes, after all!). Or maybe other marketing channels such as word of mouth or print are working well for you (and nothing wrong with that). Or perhaps you use social media personally but are not sure where to start with building a presence for your business.

If you’re wondering, ‘why should I bother?’, our answer is simple: ‘why wouldn’t you?!’ Here at Happity, we see social media as an easy way for class providers to get more visibility and reach new audiences. Here’s why:

5 reasons class providers need social media:

1. It offers parents & carers a glimpse into your classes before they book, helping to build trust.

2. It helps showcase your personality and create a sense of fun especially if you jump on trending memes, or post videos of yourself.

Remember: Happity Members can sign up to our Weekly Trends newsletter. Get the latest trending audio and memes delivered to your inbox every Monday, along with tips on how to use them to promote your classes.

3. It builds your community by increasing the number of people you reach on a weekly basis.

4. It keeps you connected with those who attend your classes.

5. It’s free! (or very cheap – even if you’re advertising), unlike most other forms of marketing.

But I’m shy, we hear you say…

We understand not all class providers like being ‘the face’ of their business online. Fear not! Happity’s resident social media expert, Leanne Warren, has this advice for reluctant users:

‘We know social media doesn’t come naturally to everyone, but we’d really encourage you to give it a go. When parents are looking for classes, they want to get a sense of the vibe and the teacher’s personality before they decide to hit ‘book’. Seeing a friendly face or something humorous / entertaining is an ice-breaker – it can alleviate any nerves they might be feeling.’

And it definitely gets easier with practice! Why not have a go filming yourself / talking in front of the mirror and ask a friend or family member for feedback?

If fronting things yourself really isn’t your bag, there are plenty of other forms of content you could post e.g. images / videos of your classes, infographics with some trending audio, etc.

As a busy class provider, I’m already time-stretched! How much time is all of this going to take?

While lots of generic social media advice you’ll find online will tell you to post every day, we know that’s not achievable for most class providers.

A better approach is to decide how often you can realistically post and stick to it. Social platforms do reward regular posting, however; so try to post as often as you can (e.g. you could start by aiming to do 2-3 post a week).

Here at Happity we love Buffer, an online tool that lets you schedule your posts in advance, so can get your week’s content sorted in one fell swoop!

Ok, I’m convinced. But where do I start?
