When you overwork yourself and forget how to set boundaries
Do you find yourself working well into the evenings, responding to customers at all hours of the day? It could be time to revisit your boundaries to avoid being overwhelmed by your business.
You need to decide the hours you want to work, and then put systems and processes in place to support that. You need to communicate this with your customers, and manage their expectations, so that your work doesn’t impinge on the time you need with your family or for yourself.
For example:
- Have an out of office responder on your email or phone which explains which days you work and when they can expect a response
- Do not reply to people on social media channels at 10pm at night if you’re going to be irritated by them continuing to message at that time
- If you do work late in to the evening sending emails, schedule them to go out in the morning, rather than your customer seeing you’re working at 11pm at night
- Carve out time during the week for business admin/planning and ring fence that at all costs
These are all ways to make your boundaries clear. Run your business, rather than let it run you.
